wordle.net

Tuesday, February 10th, 2009
Have you seen this?  SUCH a fun website!  We’ve been having lots of fun here playing around with this.  We’re staying with my sister Michelle and her family while we settle back in here in California.  So not much activity on this blog lately… hopefully that will change soon… please bear with me.  The above wordle represents what I aspire to do with this blog.  Please stay tuned.  More ideas, tips, encouragement and projects are on the horizon!
Anyway, I discovered wordle.net a few weeks ago, and used it in making a painting/ collage for a friend.

The possibilities here are endless!  You can type in a Bible verse, a list, a story… anything.  The girls here are loving it too.  They typed in their names and the names of the plays they’ve been in, to use as a cover for their binders to hold the scripts for the play they’re performing in this Spring.  (Hint:  the more times a word is used, the larger that word will appear.  Words do not appear more than once.  And there’s no way I’ve found to keep words in a phrase together.)  What I usually do is type in my list and then keep hitting the “randomize” button until I get something I really like.  You can also play with colors, fonts, and direction of the words.  It’s seriously super fun.  Copy that!

art journal / sketch book

Wednesday, January 7th, 2009

I have been so inspired the last few months by iHanna’s daily art cards.  She made art cards every day of last year, and you can see some of them here.  I love that they are all so different.  Some drawn, some painted, some using mixed media.  Some simple, some extravagant.

For years I’ve had things in my mind that I’d like to create, but because I don’t really know how to make it come out, I’ve just sat back and watched what others do with their talent.  I’m now inspired to just do it anyway.  I’m not striving to make something new each day, but I have started an art journal and will add to it often (I hope).

This morning I did my first page.

Another great idea is to have a family sketch book, where all members of the family can draw and add to it whenever they please.  Cakies has a post about it here.  I think that’s an idea any family can use.  And what a great thing to look back on at the end of the year, or whenever the book is full.  My suggestion:  date the pages and put initials next to drawings so you can remember who did what.
